Rocky Jacobs-Carpenter has been involved in public safety for almost 40 years. She earned a B.S. in biology from the University of San Francisco and then received her initial paramedic certification in 1981 and has worked for several private and municipal ambulance companies in the greater Bay Area. In addition, she performed as a paramedic/rescue technician for the Sonoma County Sheriff’s helicopter unit Henry 1 for 13 years. Rocky retired a few years ago (as a Lieutenant in fire suppression) after completing 30 years in the fire service, the last twenty in the Berkeley Fire Department.
With that lovely fire department schedule, Rocky has had the opportunity to share her knowledge by teaching at a variety of training centers including the Santa Rosa Junior College where she was Director of the EMS Academy for five years. She continues to teach there as adjunct faculty in various EMS programs and is proud to have seen many of her former students go on to function as paramedics, EMT’s and firefighters. She also teaches advanced classes (ACLS, PALS, ITLS, PHTLS and PEPP) as well as BLS throughout the county.
